The Peugeot 205 GTI Griffe is undoubtedly a legendary car, but do you know about its Dutch cousin? Much less known, this special version of the 205 is just as exceptional. Released in a limited edition, this compact little car has managed to carve out a place in the hearts of car enthusiasts.

The Peugeot 205 "Trophy," a rare award to find!
Everyone knows the extraordinary Peugeot 205 GTI "Griffe," but have you ever heard of the Peugeot 205 "Trophy"?
PEUGEOT 205 NÉERLANDAISE

Many of you are familiar with the famous "205 Trophy," a humanitarian rally that takes place every year in the Moroccan desert. But today, the car we are going to discuss has absolutely nothing to do with that!

It was January 1992 when a strange limited edition based on the Peugeot 205 "XE" was released in the Netherlands. It bears a striking resemblance to the legendary 205 GTI "Griffe," which was launched 14 months earlier in France. Its name? The Peugeot 205 "Trophy"!
At first glance, one might think it's yet another limited edition of the Peugeot 205 without much interest, but that's not what we think. Just looking closely at its features reveals otherwise.
First of all, look at this shade; it’s not Vallelunga red or a simple Onyx black, NO! It’s the stunning Fluorite green identical to that of the Peugeot 205 GTI "Griffe," a truly original color!

And take a look at its fender flares and side protection strips adorned with body-colored trims that extend to the bumpers; this was unique in the world at that time, even the GTI "Griffe" didn’t have them!
QAs for the wheels, forget about the hubcaps and standard steel wheels found on most limited editions; those of the "Trophy" are lightweight 13-inch alloy wheels, known as "Prinz" among enthusiasts. Additionally, they are in anthracite gray, giving it a seriously sporty look.
In addition, there are tinted windows, a specific monogram, and stickers on the front fenders. A few examples even came with an optional pop-up sunroof.
On the interior side, forget the monotone upholstery of the 205 "XE," and welcome the one from the Peugeot 205 "Look" and "Accent" with its reddish-orange piping surrounding the front seats and the rear bench. Just like its inserts of the same color in the doors.

However, in terms of performance, it is far from that of a "GTI" or even a "Rallye." With its small 1.1L "TU1M" catalyzed engine producing 60 horsepower, you will spend most of your time peacefully listening to the radio rather than racing between traffic lights.
But rejoice, if you love being in the spotlight, you will never go unnoticed with this car, simply because the Peugeot 205 "Trophy" was produced in only 300 units. To date, only 13 remain in circulation, and only one of them has left the Netherlands to join the 205 Total Aventure collection in France.
Little anecdote: at the same time, the Peugeot 106 Trophy made its appearance in Dutch dealerships.
It had the same engine and the same specific elements of the series, with the exception that the Peugeot 106 "Trophy" had a sound alarm for forgotten lights and a black spoiler on the tailgate.
The wheels are also slightly different, as they have only 3 studs, unlike those of the 205, which have 4.
Unfortunately, only 2 examples of the Peugeot 106 "Trophy" have survived over time and are still in circulation. It is highly likely that this is the very first limited series 106 to have been produced. With a lot of research, we were able to find a photo of one of these two survivors for you.
