Few countries around the world have had the chance to benefit from one or more special editions of the GTI, but Switzerland is an exception to this rule with a long list of candidates to its credit. After a six-year period on the market, the 205 GTIs are experiencing a gradual decline in sales. In 1989, the figures show a drop of 13.51% compared to the previous year, representing a decrease of about 5,851 units.

In response to this situation, the brand took measures by rethinking the aesthetics of its iconic car, with modifications to the front and rear lights to make them more contemporary. To give a second wind to its emblem, Peugeot implemented a bold plan: to develop and introduce two new colors to the market. The first, named 'Sorrento Green,' first appeared on the brand's high-end model; the Peugeot 605. It was then released a few months later on three limited editions of the Peugeot 205 GTI, one of which was marketed in Switzerland under the name Magic.

The second color, named 'Miami Blue,' aimed to replace the Topaz Blue, which had not achieved the expected success with customers. Its market launch began in January 1990 with the release of a limited English special series of 600 units in this color, based on the 1.6L 115 horsepower and 1.9L 130 horsepower versions.

Studied simultaneously to be unveiled from March 8 to 18, 1990, at the Geneva Motor Show, the Peugeot 205 GTI Magic and Miami would ultimately not be presented to the public at the same time. Instead, the Miami version would be carefully set aside, ready to be revealed during the 'Peugeot Jubilee,' a huge anniversary event commemorating the 100th anniversary of the very first Peugeot automobile sold. This pioneer, the Type 2, envisioned by Armand Peugeot in 1890, marked a significant milestone in the history of modern automobiles.

In anticipation of this exceptional occasion, the marketing team worked tirelessly to orchestrate a communication campaign worthy of this historic anniversary. Numerous events took place from September 7 to October 7, 1990, highlighting the entire 1991 range, which included several special editions such as the Peugeot 309 Flair and Graffic, the 405 SRI Suisse, the 205 Look, the 205 Green, and the fabulous 205 GTI Miami!

In honor of this anniversary month, a series of captivating activities were organized, including a large competition spanning the entire celebration period. An impressive array of prizes, totaling 100,000 Swiss francs in value, was up for grabs. Among the rewards were 901 Peugeot Trophy board games, 89 Peugeot sports bags, 8 getaways for two to Paris, a Peugeot 309 Flair as the second prize, and, in the spotlight, the remarkable Peugeot 205 GTI Miami.

To participate, all you had to do was go to a Peugeot Talbot dealer and fill out a form with your contact information.

Besides this unique shade, this special edition shares many features with its cousin, the Peugeot 205 GTI Magic, although there are a few distinctions. The windows are tinted and electric at the front. It also includes central locking for the doors and tailgate, with a 'PLIP' remote control, and is fitted with four 15-inch Exip Narrow wheels, featuring black wheel centers adorned with the lion brand.

Inside, we find the signature black and red semi-leather upholstery of the standard GTI, accompanied by red carpeting. Like all Swiss GTIs, the Miami is equipped with a headlight height adjustment button located to the left of the instrument panel.
The audio system follows the same line as that of the Magic, including a Pioneer radio with a Car-compo GM-41A amplifier, a high-performance DEH 55 SDK tuner with CD player, and four speakers with a power of 160 watts.

The very first Peugeot 205 GTI Miami, particularly those sold during the Peugeot Jubilee event, were devoid of stickers on the fenders. It was not until the beginning of November 1990 that they made their appearance. Mud flaps for the front wheels were also added during this same period.

To date, no Peugeot 205 GTI Miami still in circulation has its stickers in their original locations. To assist those who wish to restore their 205 GTI Miami correctly, we have reconstructed the exact location of the sticker on the front fenders. For this, we based our work on a period photo taken in November 1990 during a Swiss automotive test.

This special edition set a record for advertising slogans for the same Peugeot 205. Throughout the month of the Peugeot Jubilee, a variety of phrases were deployed in the press. All these slogans highlighted the performance of the audio system, resonating in harmony with the power of the engine.
